Wellness Fraud

You know as well as I do, in January there’s a huge health push

Gyms and fitness centers, nutrition and wellness programs, and workout equipment on sale – you name it and it’s being talked about.  Now, don’t get me wrong, after the indulgence of the holidays January is a great time to start investing in yourself and working on your health & wellness… and so is any other time of the year 😉

Recently, my mentor, Dr. Patrick Gentempo, shared a “wellness” story

He talked about one of his top business clients, whom we’ll call Jim.  Jim has the means and motivation to invest a LOT of time, money, and energy into his wellness because health and longevity are important to him.  He’s done “wellness” for years.  After coaching with Patrick for a short time (focused on business growth), the two men and their wives spent a social weekend in Chicago eating, sight-seeing, and enjoying each other’s company.  At the end of the night, Jim said to Patrick, “I had no idea what Chiropractic was about, that it connects, organizes, and orchestrates the intricacies of how the human body functions.  I’ve spent all this time and money on ‘wellness’ throughout my life, but wellness without chiropractic is a fraud.”

Did you catch that?

Wellness without chiropractic is a fraud.

You’re probably thinking one of two things,

“what was in that last paragraph? Maybe I should read it again.” Or, “she says that because she’s a chiropractor.” You know, there is truth to both statements.

Here’s what happened over that weekend.  Jim finally understood what chiropractic is all about.  He went from the mindset and understanding most people have – chiropractic is a natural way to help with neck and back pain – to a more thorough understanding and expanded mindset.

His new understanding about chiropractic included the critical facets most people don’t know.  Chiropractic is solely focused on keeping your brain and body in communication, organization, and quality function.  When these things happen, the body heals, pain goes away, function improves, and health improves.

Without chiropractic…

Jim’s brain and body can’t talk to each other, his body can’t orchestrate the integration of all the multi-dimensions of healthy things he’s doing, and his health and wellness isn’t coordinated, organized, nor optimized!  Jim realized he’s been doing all these things for health and wellness, but his brain and body don’t have quality communication, so he’s not truly getting “well.”   He concluded “wellness” without chiropractic isn’t truly wellness.

So where does that leave you?

I’d start by asking yourself what your goal is.  If your goal is wellness, regular chiropractic care is part of that formula.  If your goal is to not be sick or suffer, regular chiropractic care is part of that formula.  Nothing in your body works without your nervous system – and chiropractic care improves the function of your nervous system.  It’s that simple.

Many of you reading this already get regular chiropractic adjustments (regular means 2-4x/month) – Congrats!  You are healthier because your body is more organized and has better internal communication.  If you aren’t getting regular chiropractic adjustments, it’s time to start.

I know this conversation will stir up questions

It might even bring up some defensiveness about what health is and what you’ve been doing to invest in your health.  Let’s talk about it.  I’d love to hear your thoughts and questions about wellness.

My goal is to provide quality, truthful, empowering information so you can live a better life.

You deserve it.

With love and inspiration,

Dr. Michelle
